Shane-O-Mac....WCW's new owner! Wow! Not that I didn't really see it coming, or that I had hoped it wouldn't happen, but I was a little un-sure. After all, it IS Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation that we're talking about here! It's being said right now that the New WCW will be on Saturday nights, tentatively from 11pm to 1am, going head-to-head with Saturday Night Live. I don't really think that they are going to pose a real threat to Lorne Michaels' show, but in the event it does, Vince won't mind a bit! Especially after Michaels went ape-shit over an XFL game that cut into his show earlier in the season. I'm also hearing that the New WCW show won't start for about 6-8 weeks. Another possibility that I have heard is Wednesday nights. I think that Wednesday nights would be better for them. The ECW experience on TNN was from 8-9 on Friday nights, and well, that didn't turn out too good. I believe their highest rating was a 1.3! Now, I know WCW has a bigger following than ECW did, and TNN is a little different network, plus, WWF Entertainment, has a LOT more cash to promote and hype their new show than ECW did.
There are so many things that can be done with the, shall we say, New World Order of wrestling. (Sorry I couldn't help myself!) I think bringing some WWF talent over to the new WCW to help them build up would be a great idea. Guys like Billy Gunn, Big Show (maybe) Some younger guys down in Memphis or Ohio Valley (some of the WWF's "farm teams") Guys that just aren't getting the TV time because of all the big time stars on the current WWF roster.
The cross promotion started Monday night with Vince appearing on Nitro and Shane actually being there! It looks like they already have a good plan in place and if they play there cards right, this could be the biggerst wrestling angle of all time! Wrestling fans have been waiting for something like this for years!! It's Thursday evening as I'm writing this, and I'm still marking out from last Monday night's events!! I can't wait for Smackdown!! Plus this is the last show before Wrestlemania X-7 this Sunday on PPV! It should be a good one! I wanted to do a Wrestlemania previw, and I still might if I have time, so I wont get into too much of that here, but you have to wonder if anyone from WCW is gonna show up! I haven't heard of anyone being scheduled to be there, but if the WWF was going to do that, they may just keep it a secret. Then again, if they said something publicly, maybe more people would buy the PPV. Shane VS Vince is a no-holds-barred street fight and it's quite possible that someone from Shane's new WCW will want to gain favor with the new boss. I guess we'll just have to wait until Sunday at 8pm to find out! I'll try to get a preview up, but if I don't I promise to do a recap of sorts after the event, which will probably include RAW as well.
